Chocolate Macaroons

Every time I make these, they are almost always for a gift. And yet, they barely make it out of the house because they are so delicious!

I could eat tons of them, and as proof of yumminess, my stepdad who “doesn’t like raw food” loves these little gems and asks for them each year.

Here’s the recipe ~ ~ ~

Ingredients

3 cups shredded unsweetened coconut (dried)
1 1/2 cups raw cacao powder (or terrfic quality cocoa powder)
1 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup high quality coconut oil
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp himalayan salt

Process

in a large bowl, combine all ingredients and stir well. Use a small ice cream scoop or small spoon to place rounded batter onto dehydrator* screens. Dehydrate at 140 degrees F for about five hours, or until crisp on outside and chewy on inside.

*By dehydrator, I mean an Ex-Calibur dehydrator, which is excellent at drying foods at low temperatures evenly. If you don’t have a dehydrator, try making these in the oven at the lowest temperature available and watch them closely so they do not burn. For the adventurous types, you can try and sun dry them. Let us know how it goes!

Homeless to Home

Who We Are Highlighting

For the month of January 2020, we highlight our dear family member who is transitioning from being homeless to having a home in an assisted living facility.

Ron has been in and out of an institution since he was 14 years old. He is now 66 and has been living on the streets of Las Vegas for the past 18 years.  He has just been moved into an assisted living facility as of December 2019.

How We Are Connected

Ron is Amua’s birth father & Ki’s father-in-law. Amua reconnected with him in October 2019 after 42 years.

It was quite the spiritual journey finding him. Perhaps a book will be written about it one day. ( :

For now, Amua and Ron are having a lovely time reconnecting, integrating and getting to know each other.

Amazing Facts about Ron

Ron has been studying physics & time travel for the past 30 years. It’s a great love of his, and he is very intelligent. Ron has an great sense of humor and believes laughter is the best medicine. He loves sitting with his friends and chatting about their life stories. Ron is a master storyteller and could enertain for hours. He is a very kind person who advocates for those who don’t have anyone to advocate for them whenever possible. Ron is a gifted artist who loves to draw and paint. Ron loves to pray and be inspired by God.

What is Unique about Ron’s Situation

It has been an extreme challenge navigating & learning the system to help get Ron into a stable home, as well as an ongoing struggle to get proper medical assistance & attention for the myriad of health issues he has.

We continue to look for natural and alternative ways to assist him, however this is a challenge living far away as well as building a bridge with Ron about the benefits of this type of care.

Ron is very used to the system, knows it’s broken, and has been doing the best he has been able to on his own for many years. He has been in and out of emergency rooms to help address his healthcare for many years now. Often what happens with homeless people when they seek assistance is that they simply fall through the cracks of the system. Without an advocate, this happens more often than not. Ki and Amua are now his advocates.

Ron has quite a bit of trauma from living on the streets and from being in prison. He has significant health challenges such as advanced diabetes, cellulitis, Chronic Obstuctive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD), advanced degenerative arthritis in his spine, and is in a wheelchair; he cannot walk any longer.

What is Currently Needed

Ron currently is in need of several things. It is complicated being homeless. Many people assume that once someone who has been homeless has a bed to sleep in, that this is the most important thing, the safest thing, and that this is enough. However, being homeless has many many levels to it.

Ron doesn’t care so much about a bed, it’s not the first thing on his list. Ron cares about freedom, spaciousness, fresh air, and getting out of pain. He has expressed he does not wish to be homeless any longer, and wants to find a living situation that will work.

Ron is in need of several material items, as well as people that may be willing to assist him in other ways, such as in person or distance energy work, medical assistance, in person or long distance friendship, etc. If you have extra time and wish to serve, contact us. ( :

Material Items:

  • A Dell labtop computer (For him to pursue his interests of physics, science, art & movies. The assisted living home he is in has two computers for more than 120 residents to share)
  • Headphones for his computer
  • Warm Clothing (size 38/32 jeans, size 4XL shirts with pockets, zip up 4XL sweaters/hoodies)
  • Lightweight Wheelchair Transport Chair (so he can go easily to the hospital if needed, as he is in an electric chair that ambulances will not transport people in, also so he can go in cars with people to restaurants or etc.) Here’s an example of the one that could work.
  • Slippers (size 16, with no back on them, his feet are very swollen from the cellulitis)
  • Microwave popcorn
  • Lemonade Koolaid – Sugar Free
  • Colored pencils, Chalk Pastels, Felt Paper (he loves to draw)
  • Tobacco  – Bugle Tobacco in pouches, or Camel Wide Blues

How to Help

We are grateful for any assistance you offer. Thank you!

If you would like to purchase one of the above items and have it sent to him, before doing so, please contact us at [email protected] to make sure it is still needed and to receive the address.

Why Wear a Medicine Pouch?

Our Clan Mother, Hua Anwa, often asks people who are not wearing a Medicine Pouch, “Why are you walking around naked?” She’ll give you the sideways glance and head shaking that she gives people when they need to know something. She isn’t messing around.

What she means by this talking to is that we Westerners have not been educated in the importance of how to protect ourselves from the influences we are exposed to on a daily basis – other people’s energies, viruses, bacteria, thought forms, etc.

By wearing a Medicine Pouch, it can help with, in essence, repeling these types of influences and not be affected by them. They will literally bounce off of you and be reabsorbed into the cosmos.

I used to be a HUGE empath – meaning almost whomever I was around, I would take on their energy. If they were upset, I would start to feel upset, etc. It was extremely challenging. When I started wearing a Medicine Pouch, my life shifted dramatically. I felt like I could stay centered and not be so affected. It was so altering for me that I now will literally turn my car around and go home to retrieve my pouch if I forget to put it on before I leave the house!

So, what’s IN a Medicine Pouch? This is a very personal and intimate question that is also what makes it a beautiful ritual. You get to choose what goes inside your sacred pouch. It could be crystals, herbs, animal hair/skin, bones, affirmations, symbols, feathers, etc. etc. etc.

That being said, there are certain herbs that are recommended that are a good base to have in a pouch that we have experienced being very protective and connective to the Spirit Realms. We are honored to assist in helping you craft your own pouch, or consulting with you to craft a pouch for you. Read more here.

Linear or Fluid?

Here is a perspective from our dominate feminine and masculine, left and right brained perspectives – our view of the Cacao Ceremony we offer. Depending on how you interact with the world, you may resonate with an explanation that is more linear or fluid – or both!

Feminine & Creative

Gathering in circle we begin our dance together of learning to bridge our differences into a common ground. We weave the web of interconnection by opening Spirit Doors,  calling in & honoring elemental energies that exist in all of creation. We awaken the dormant seeds of collective wisdom that exists in all of our DNA, our Hearts, our Souls.

We become more animal-being (and less human-doing) as linear time fades into the distance. Our senses heighten…we become more aware of our bodies and how we experience ourselves and others.

Copal, Sage, Sweetgrass & Palo Santo fill the air. The Ancient Songs & Drum beats our hearts. The warmth & elegant bitterness of Mama Cacao Medicine enters our physical body – and we feel it – somehow – opening our heart.

Something is changing, shifting.

We are happy to rest as the Magical & Mystical Gong sounds envelope the room & help us in surrendering to the elemental forces in the room. We journey. We slow down. We rest. Gently coaxed back into an upright position, we gather again in Circle.

We have changed.

Become….more Whole, somehow – through this journey of our senses, our primal nature has been awakened and we breathe deeper.

Spirits renewed, we step our again into the world, ready to Serve.

Masculine & Linear

As humans we are designed to thrive when we have healthy guidelines and instructions on how to live. A child for example does best when he/she has parents who raise them with values, morals and behavioral norms.

A ceremony in affect acts as a container with clear instructions and protocols while still allowing for the creative nature of persons to experience and express. Our Cacao Ceremony reflects these values and principles. As there are so many aspects of ceremony that could be discussed, I will focus on four main components.

The four main “players” in our ceremony:  Central Altar, Cacao, Sound and Movement. Each brings its qualities rooted in indigenous wisdom and supported by modern scientific investigations.

Cacao brings to us a mixture of chemistry including Anandamide, high levels of antioxidants, Theobromine and Magnesium. What has been discovered is these natural occurring chemicals have a unique reaction on the physiology of the body. Anandamide acts a neuro-stimulant on the pleasure center of the brain. It creates a sense of natural euphoria and well- being. Magnesium in this natural sourced structure relaxes muscles, supports the heart and increases brain power. Having higher antioxidant levels per weight than red wine and pomegranates, it protects us from age-related conditions.

Gongs have been in use in rituals & ceremony for thousands of years in Asia. The Planetary Gongs are a unique twist that were first introduced by Hans Cousto in the late 70’s. A trained mathematician and musician he discovered a way to tune the frequencies of certain planets into Gongs. Depending on which type of planetary gong, a very specific frequency is created when played. What we know is – much like drumming used in shamanic practices – the gong initiates a change in our brains.

The brain operates on frequencies; our normal conscious state operates on Beta frequency (12-30 Hz). A gong induces Alpha and Theta brainwave frequencies almost immediately. Alpha waves (8-12 Hz) are present in states of relaxation such as daydreaming or use of imagination. Theta waves (4-7 Hz) are present during dream sleep or deep meditation. Sometimes, even Delta waves (.5-4 Hz), which are associated with deep sleep and other unconscious states, can be achieved.

After only a few minutes our output of brain waves change. The sounds of the gong resonate in every cell of our bodies in a powerful and effective way.

Our Cacao Ceremony handed down to us by our Ancestral Ties & Spirit has been particularly developed to be a rich experience.

Due to our training outside of our indigenous teachings, we acknowledge the value in including all the senses. Therefore, we consciously add the other “players” in our ceremony. Hearing the drums, rattles, flute and ancient songs, seeing & feeling the physical aspects on the altar, smelling the aroma of sacred plants, feeling our bodies in movement or in response to ceremony itself. These are well documented in scientific literature as part of our human experience.
