Why Would I Need Chiropractic?

This is a commonly asked question when someone is not sure what chiropractic is and what the benefits are in using it. It has a rich, rich history of living in the world of vitalism. Chiropractic originally was developed through deep philosophical understanding of the universe.

BJ Palmer, the developer of chiropractic, used chiropractic as a way of honoring the body, honoring healing and health, and most importantly respecting and honoring each individual‘s inborn capacity to heal themselves. Dr. Palmer’s main objective in spreading the word of chiropractic was to let people know that chiropractic worked along the fundamental physiology of a dynamic miraculous human body. He felt that to optimize the human body was the best way to bring greater levels of health and wellness to people.

Today, there are two reasons somebody would use chiropractic. One reason is for pain relief and the other is for optimizing function to maximize the healing properties of the body.

Pain

Chiropractic has shown to be very effective in many musculoskeletal conditions. Because chiropractic aims to identify the cause of pain rather than as a band-aid approach, it can be very effective for relieving an assortment of physical pain.

Here is a list of common conditions that benefit from chiropractic care:

  • Headaches
  • Neck pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Shoulder and elbow pain
  • Pain that runs from your neck down into your arms
  • Mid back pain and low back pain
  • Pain that travels down the legs (sciatica)
  • Tingling in the bottoms of the feet
  • Hip knee and ankle pain
  • Wrist pain

There are other conditions that have been reported to benefit indirectly using chiropractic:

  • Asthma
  • Colic in babies
  • Digestive trouble
  • Seizures
  • Insomnia
  • Acid reflux
  • Non-related cardiovascular disease-breathing trouble
  • Rib mis-alignments
  • Immune system improvement
  • Circulatory system
  • Reduction of high-blood pressure
  • Scoliosis

Wellness

One of my favorite analogies explaining the use of chiropractic is this:

To use chiropractic for pain relief is like using a TV as a plant stand. The TV will work to hold the plant but if that is all use the TV for, then you’re missing out on a whole bunch of cool benefits.

In order to understand how chiropractic works we need to review the connection of the nervous system throughout the body. The nervous system itself is made up of the brain, spinal cord and the nerves that branch off of them.

Every cell of the body  is innervated by the nervous system. The neurological flow from the brain to the body can fluctuate from excellent to poor and in some extreme cases to zero (found in paralysis). Because of the spectrum of neurological function we can have a varying degree of the vital connection between the brain and the body. The nerves exit from the spinal cord must pass through spinal column.  It is at this point of exit where the nerves are the most sensitive. The nerve root can be irritated by multiple dysfunctions.

The main dysfunction that is looked at within chiropractic is the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC). The vertebral subluxation in its most basic explanation is composed of four parts:

1. Misalignment
2. Pressure on the nerve
3. Reduction of nerve flow
4. Interference of the neurological input flowing to the body.

When we have all these components present we have the VSC.  In essence we have a choking of the information or messages that are being sent from the brain to the body. When there is interference going to all cells, organs, and tissues that receive this information they no longer getting optimal input. In this way it is a choking off life itself, it is a reduction of the life force that is passing through the body.

When there is a reduction of life force then there will be disharmony or dis-ease. To facilitate the expression of the inborn intelligence of the body as it is seen in the flow of the nerve impulse from the brain in the body is the greatest objective of a chiropractor.

Gluten-Free Paleo Chocolate Treats

Curious about how to still enjoy chocolate treats now that you are on your gluten-free/paleo diet? It can be a challenge to find something that is healthy AND tastes good.

Look no more – this will super-satisfy your taste buds and put your mind at ease. And they are super easy to make!

Here’s a little more about the ingredients used to make these. First, we will use raw or roasted organic almond butter.  Truly raw almond butter can be expensive, so sometimes we opt for roasted (also because the taste is a bit more nutty roasted).  The reason why you would might choose to use raw almond butter is because in it’s natural state, there are more nutrients, vitamins and minerals intact, as they haven’t been exposed to heat.

Next, we will use raw cacao powder. Cacao in it’s raw form is an amazing source of many antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and cool, relatively unknown sources of neurotransmitters. One is called “Phenylethylalanine” or PEA, otherwise known as the “bliss chemical”. It’s a hormoned secreted when we fall in love! How amazing that we get to fall in love with chocolate, again and again. You can grind our amazing cacao paste to make cacao powder, if you are so inspired!

The third ingredient is raw honey. Honey in it’s raw state is filled to the brim with antioxidants, and can even help you with allergies, as it has minute bits of pollen, which is known to help boost the immune system and ward off allergy symptoms. Plus, it’s delicious.

Vanilla is our fourth ingredient. Vanilla in desserts, in our opinion, is almost indispensable. It adds a creaminess and subtle sweetness that can’t be matched. Buy an organic vanilla extract that has no other fillers or additives in it. You might even get exotic and try a pure vanilla bean (scrape out the inner “meat” and use this part in the recipe), or vanilla bean powder.

Lastly, do not forget a touch of salt. We use pink himalayan salt, which has 82 minerals – the same amount our body has and needs. Note that table salt (i.e., the white stuff at restaurants) only has two minerals: sodium and chloride. Sometimes they add in iodine. This salt is heated to very high temperatures and our body can’t really recognize it as a good source of minerals.

Okay!!! Now for the recipe!!! You’ve been really patient. Thanks!

RECIPE:

1 CUP almond butter
1/4 CUP raw honey
1/2 cup raw cacao powder
1/2 – 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp himalayan salt

Wash hands. Add all ingredients into a bowl. Wash hands again. Begin kneading the ingredients with your hands. Really, it turns out much better when you use your hands – we promise! Keep kneading until all ingredients incorporated and everything is the same color.

Now it’s time to taste. Take a bit and taste. Does it need more salt? More honey? More vanilla? It might not need a thing. What NOT to do is to start adding OTHER ingredients not in this recipe to try and “fix” your recipe. This is your base recipe. Once you have perfected this, then you could add on with other ingredients if you so desired.

Once you have it the way you like, form small balls and place in a tupperware to keep in fridge. This recipe should make about 25-40 balls depending on the size you make them.

If you liked this recipe, stay tuned for more!

Crystal Layouts vs. Crystal Grids

There are several key differences between a “crystal layout” and a “crystal grid”. Many may not know the differences, and yet it’s vital for practical energy work!

A crystal layout:

  • involves placing stones on or around the body to create a change
  • is on the body for a limited amount of time (i.e., usually 10-20 minutes)
  • is not activated

A crystal grid:

  • involves a very specific pattern for a very specific intention
  • is not on the body, rather it’s placed in a certain location
  • is always activated in a certain way
  • can be left for an extended amount of time, i.e., one day up to months or even years

You might create a crystal grid to:

  • send physical, emotional mental healing to someone you know
  • draw customers to a business
  • enhance fertility
  • attract in your mate
  • create harmony and ease in your home
  • honor the energy of a specific deity you work with (i.e., Sekhmet, Virgen de Guadalupe, Pele)
  • mark an energetic transition for an auspicous day/time of year (i.e., Solstices, etc.)
